Welcome to part 3 of the program ‘How to face your social fears to exercise in public’, in this part we will discuss what to do in the second week to further lower anxiety, remember in part 2 we talked how just going out alone for minutes per day is better than staying at home and doing internet procrastination, that will help you to see the world and how people leave, you are leaving your comfort zone slowly but surely.
Week 2: Observe, Laugh and smile
If going out alone, meaning you stay silent by observing how people act and see moving life objects then the second step is to do is laughing and smiling, I know that sounds funny but hear me out, I know how hard it’s for you to live in depressed state for years, when you go out alone and observe people how they live you might start to think again that life is enjoyable, and so you will start to feel better and give hope again, so in the second week of the program I want you to repeat the same thing you did in the first week, but just with more reactions from your part.
Keep it simple: Observe, laugh and smile
Just observe families how their kids play on the ground with dogs and cats, come close to them and find something that make you laugh, watch and observe them, when they stare at you smile at them, when you are alone sitting in a chair and you feel that everyone is staring at you then scan the full room, you will find that everybody is busy doing their thing, my whole idea is to make you understand that people are not enemies and it’s hard to acknowledge it when you encountered the bad guys in the past who mocked and laughed at you, so it takes time and you should learn patience to succeed, so again, please keep doing that, find anything that make you laugh and do it, you will not talk in this week, no good morning, no hello, just coming close to them, finding something that make you feel positive. That’s all, you should make efforts to find it, and even if you can’t, you at least tried, no friend should come with you and no headset on your ears, those things distract you but they will not help you to beat your anxiety so remember that.
